City of Titusville Receives USDA Rural Development Funding for Sewer Upgrade Project

Titusville, Pa., May 16, 2012 – USDA Rural Development today announced funding for the City of Titusville Sewer Upgrade Project that will benefit more than 2,300 households and businesses. Officials from Rural Development, Congressman Glenn (GT) Thompson’s Office, and City of Titusville officials participated in the announcement.

Rural Development’s $2,882,000 million loan and $3,044,700 grant through the Water and Environmental Program will help provide a much needed sewer treatment plant upgrade. The current waste water treatment plant’s system will be upgraded with a more efficient one and repairs will be made to some of the plant’s existing structures. Additional funding was provided by a Community Development Block Grant and applicant contributions.

USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.

“This project is an example of how USDA Rural Development is helping to protect local waterways throughout rural Pennsylvania,” said Bill McCloskey, Rural Development Area Director. “And, we are offering funding to areas like Titusville for projects that otherwise may be out of reach for a rural budget.”

USDA Rural Development serves as the lead federal agency for rural development needs by offering financial and technical assistance to individuals, businesses and communities. USDA Rural Development programs include funding for day care centers, fire trucks and other community facility projects; the purchase, construction or repair of homes; loans and guarantees to rural businesses to save or create jobs and renewable energy; and loans and grants for water and sewer utility projects. For more information on programs offered by USDA Rural Development, contact the Pennsylvania State Office at (717) 237-2299 or visit its website at www.rurdev.usda.gov/pa.
