(MAY 22, 2012) BUTTERFIELD RECEIVES $950,000 FROM USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT FOR WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
Butterfield, MO, May 22, 2012 --

@@USDA Rural Development presented the City of Butterfield with a certificate of recognition on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. The City will receive a Water and Waste Program loan of $378,000 and $572,000 grant funds to drill a new well, replace and upgrade existing distribution lines and for the street repair where lines are replaced or repaired. Additional funding from the state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in the amount of $500,000 plus $200,000 of city funds bring the total cost of this project to $1,650,000. When complete, the new well will alleviate current disruptions in service and loss of pressure due to problems with the existing well and water lines currently serving 145 residents and businesses in the City.

Mayor Tony Cope expressed appreciation on behalf of the city. “This project has come together with hard work from city council, the USDA, other funding agencies, and Simmons Engineering. I would like to say thanks for your cooperation and financial contributions. These much needed improvements to our water system will benefit current residents and support improvements to sustain our future growth and economic development for all our customers” said Cope.

“This is a great partnership when everyone works together for a common goal of meeting the needs of an environmentally safe water system,” stated Anita “Janie” Dunning, Missouri State Director. “I want to thank everyone for working together to make this project a reality. Appreciation is extended to our federal elected officials, U.S. Senators Claire McCaskill, Roy Blunt plus U.S. Representative Billy Long, for supporting USDA Rural Development. They have been strong proponents for the necessary funding for essential services for rural Missourians.”
