PLYMOUTH, WI – JUNE 15, 2012 - - - USDA Rural Development Wisconsin State Director, Stan Gruszynski, announced the selection of Fairview Crossing Apartments as recipient of USDA Rural Development’s 2012 Award of Excellence, recognizing their continued dedication to providing affordable housing to the residents of rural communities.
“The staff and management of Fairview Crossing Apartments are to be commended for their contribution to safe, attractive, affordable, housing in Plymouth, Wis.,” said Gruszynski. “As a result of their initiative and investment, they have enabled numerous individuals and families access to a safe and attractive place to call home. Since 1949, USDA housing programs have played a vital role in ensuring that rural residents enjoy homeownership and rental opportunities that are affordable, safe, and dignified.”
Since 2009, the Award of Excellence is presented each year during June, in conjunction with National Homeownership Month, to Multi-Family Housing property owners and managers who continuously demonstrate their commitment to providing quality, affordable housing to the tenants they serve.
Fairview Crossing Apartments consists of 64 family units with 57 units of rental assistance. Fairview Crossing Apartments are owned by Fairview Crossing Apartments Associates, LP, and is managed by ACC Management Group Inc. (ACC) of Oshkosh, WI.
ACC has plans in place to provide additional services for the benefit of the tenants including arranging for Meals on Wheels and transportation services for those tenants that have requested help with these types of services. In addition, ACC is arranging to provide health educational outreach to tenants, from the community health services, and financial education including budgeting and identity theft.
USDA Rural Development currently provides financing for 450 multi-family housing projects in rural Wisconsin. These facilities provide rural Wisconsinites with access to more than 7,000 apartments.
Apartment complexes play an important role in the sustainability of rural communities. They allow residents to continue to live in their home community, many times close to family and friends, and provide a great opportunity for young adults to build up equity so they can someday become homeowners.
This year, USDA is commemorating the 150th anniversary founding of the “Peoples Department.” In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed into law an act of Congress establishing the United States Department of Agriculture. Since then, USDA has helped support the tremendous growth and success of American agriculture, drive economic growth, conserved natural resources and build stronger communities and a stronger nation. As we celebrate 150 years of accomplishments, USDA is looking to the future. In the years to come, we will help address the changing needs of agriculture and rural America. We will continue to help provide a safe, ample food supply for our nation and the world.
During the past year, USDA Rural Development helped a record number of Wisconsinites receive funding for economic development projects and quality of life improvements. The agency’s investment in Wisconsin helped create or retain more than 2,000 jobs; aided 2,900 families in buying their own homes; and assisted more than 200 communities in improving community facilities and upgrading local infrastructure.
USDA Rural Development has invested over $558 million throughout rural Wisconsin last year to improve rural housing, infrastructure, community facilities, businesses and renewable energy. To learn more about Rural Development, visit our website at www.rurdev.usda.gov/wi.
