(JULY 6, 2012) LAURA NIELSEN NAMED 2012 NEBRASKA SITE MANAGER OF THE YEAR

Ogallala, Nebraska, Jul 06, 2012 -- United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Nebraska State Director Maxine Moul and staff presented Laura Nielsen with an award today for being selected as the 2012 Nebraska Site Manager of the Year for Family Housing.  Nielsen, site manager for the Ogallala Housing Authority Apartments in Ogallala, Nebraska for the last 20 years, received the award for her excellence in management, commitment to service, and her diligence in building caring relationships with her tenants. Earlier in the month, Nielsen attended a ceremony in Washington, DC where she was honored as the National 2012 Site Manager of the Year for the USDA Rural Development Multi-Family Housing Program.

“Congratulations to Laura for being selected as both the National and Nebraska Site Managers of the Year. This is quite an accomplishment,” said Moul. “The awards recognize and reward managers who demonstrate commitment to both the management of the complexes and to the tenants who occupy them. Managers like Laura Nielsen assist us in accomplishing our mission of providing safe and affordable housing to rural Nebraskans.”

Ogallala Housing Authority Apartments is a 40 unit complex that is fully occupied.  During her time as manager, the Apartments have experienced very few vacancies.  The Housing Authority board members state that they do not know how they would get along without Nielsen’s dedication, drive and commitment. Her caring manner earned her the respect of all tenants

USDA Rural Development accepted nominations from its field staff for managers of USDA Rural Development rural rental housing complexes.  Nominations were based on tenant satisfaction, property curbside appeal, compliance with Rural Development’s regulations and consistent performance of actions above and beyond the call of duty.  Ogallala Housing Authority joined USDA Rural Development in the nomination of Nielsen.
