RENOVATIONS ESTABLISH THE STAPLETON COMMUNITY CENTER-STAPLETON, NEBRASKA
Aug 21, 2012 --

The citizens of Stapleton are very social, but they were hindered by the lack of facilities that could accommodate a large crowd. The community has missed several opportunities for social enhancement and economic development because they didn’t have the amenities required for the activities the community would have liked to sponsor.

In 2008, the community started asking for donations, pledges, holding raffles, haunted houses and suppers. They raised $107,438 in cash, combined with other grants, community donated labor and the Village contribution, USDA Rural Development granted funds of $50,000 to make this dream become a reality.

The Community Center will be a hub for cultural and social activities for the people of Logan, western McPherson and northern Lincoln counties. The Village of Stapleton will begin holding its own new events and expanding already existing events. Events held include hosting the BRAN (Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska) riders in early June, a community Centennial celebration in early July, hosting a summer reading program and science fair for the youth and numerous other events and get togethers. The community also recently held a “building shower” and the outpouring of donations was tremendous, including a microwave, a clock, paper goods and cleaning supplies. One of the most excited groups in town is the senior citizens who will enjoy their own dedicated space in the building for their quilting activities, etc. Community members are thrilled with the kitchen and the lovely space which is large enough for wedding receptions and family reunions. The possibilities are endless and the prospects are exciting!
