BISMARCK, ND, Oct 24, 2012 -- Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development state director, today announced that all five Tribal colleges in North Dakota were awarded grants to improve campus infrastructure. Through the Tribal College Initiative Grant program, each college will receive a $158,656 grant.
“The projects announced today will improve Tribal campus safety and will make needed renovations to college facilities,” said Schneider. “These investments are important as our Tribal colleges provide educational opportunities that drive economic activity in their communities.”
Candeska Cikana Community College, Sitting Bull College, Turtle Mountain Community College, Fort Berthold Community College and the United Tribes Technical College will use the grant funding for projects such as: helping construct new offices for faculty, providing maintenance on existing structures, and upgrading security systems.
The USDA Rural Development Tribal grant program provides land-grant institutions with funds for outreach and education services to help meet the needs of Native American communities.
