@@Harrison County, Texas Recipients Receive USDA Support to Improve Water Quality
KARNACK, Texas, November 15, 2012 –Rural Development Texas State Director Paco Valentin today announced funding support to improve water quality and access in Harrison County, Texas.
“Clean, safe water is a basic necessity for the health and economic growth of Texas rural communities," said Paco Valentin, USDA Rural Development State Director. “Rural Development is pleased to offer funding to the Karnack Water Supply Corporation to ensure water infrastructures are able to keep pace with the increase in populations of rural communities which will enhance the quality of life for their residents.”
The Karnack Water Supply Corporation (WSC) was awarded $1,582,000 in USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal loans and grants to be used for community water improvements. These loans and grants are provided by USDA to help rural communities build and upgrade rural water systems.
The funds will be used to construct a new 100,000 gallon elevated storage tank, and allow for the replacement of the existing vertical turbine pumps with new 150 gpm submersible pumps. The Karnack WSC also plans to add a new well chlorination building with equipment, construct an enclosure for the well, install mobile radio meter read software equipment, and remodel the existing office building to provide ADA compliant access. The new upgrades will bring the Karnack WSC into compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requirements for safe drinking water for the citizens of Karnack. Karnack WSC serves a population of 1,511 with 312 water connections
