HISTORIC ELECTRIC COOP FUNDING FOR SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA
Dec 14, 2012 --

Historic Electric Coop Funding for Southside Virginia

It was a historic moment in the more than 75 years of operation for the South side Electric Cooperative, when they receive $44.8 million dollars from Rural Development. The loan guaranteed news was celebrated at the Coop’s Southside Headquarter Office located in Crewe, Virginia.

The funding will provide the Electric Cooperative the opportunity to deploy much needed infrastructure improvements to better serve their large delivery area. At the core of the project, will be over 137 miles of distribution lines and 608 miles of transmission lines that will be upgraded with this funding. These improvements will provide more reliable electric service to the 1460 present customers in the 18 county regions.

In addition to the core upgrades, the funding will provide electric consumers in the area with Smart Grid technology. This allows electric consumers to have special monitors installed at their homes to actually monitor their power usage and help conserve electricity during peak times of the day.
