STEINAUER’S SEWER SYSTEM COMPLETED
Dec 31, 2012 --

Outline Of Need

The Village of Steinauer needed new lagoons due to excessive sewer runoff making its way into area streams. It also the needed to get the lagoon cells holding the sewage out of the flood plains.

How Rural Development Helped

The Village of Steinauer was able to remedy the problem with funding provided in September of 2010 by USDA Rural Development with a loan of $282,000 and grants totaling $244,000 along with $7,300 from the Village.

The Results

With the funding, the Village of Steinauer was able to purchase land outside of the flood plain to construct the three 1.5 acre lagoons that were needed to be in compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. Also, a new lift station and force main was constructed at the new site. Sludge was also removed from the existing lagoon to complete this project. Today, it no longer has an administrative order (order to fix the system) or issues with the monthly discharge of the previous system due to its new complete retention sewer system.
