@@Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Dallas Tonsager yesterday announced that USDA has awarded loans to two California organizations to construct multi-family farm labor housing properties in the communities of Calistoga and Imperial.
"The Obama Administration is committed to helping all residents in rural America," said Tonsager. "This program provides clean, safe, affordable housing to rural farm labor residents."
Calistoga Family Apartments in Calistoga and Las Palmeras Apartments in Imperial each received $3 million loans for the construction of new apartment complexes. Each complex will be comprised of 56 units and provide affordable housing to low-income domestic farm laborers. Additionally, to help ensure that this rental housing stays affordable, USDA Rural Development will provide rental assistance to low-income families and individuals living at these properties.
In addition to these projects in California, USDA announced 10 other loan and grant awards for project in nine other states. For a complete list of applicants selected for funding click here.
