PARTNERS WORKING TOGETHER FOR RURAL NEBRASKA
, Feb 01, 2013 --

Duane and Valerie Kelly’s home in Elwood, Nebraska was deteriorating right before their eyes. Living on Social Security and a small Veterans Administration pension, there was no extra money available for needed repairs to their home.

USDA Rural Development leveraged $6,700 of grant funds on October 10, 2012 with $17,000 from the Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska (Kearney).

The Kellys’ home is now free of health and safety issues. Thanks to Rural Development, the electrical system was brought to code. A broken sewer pipe in the basement was repaired and carpet was replaced to remove black mold. Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska (Kearney) helped with electrical and plumbing updates, new windows, guttering, soffit/fascia, and vinyl siding, making their home maintenance free for future years. The Kellys are most thankful to USDA Rural Development and the Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska.
