(JAN. 23, 2013) USDA HELPS STRENGTHEN LINTON WATER SYSTEM
LINTON, ND, Jan 23, 2013 --

@@USDA Rural Development State Director Jasper Schneider announced today that the City of Linton will receive a $1,109,000 loan and an $891,000 grant to renovate and make improvements to the city’s water infrastructure.

“A basic need in any community is access to a clean, adequate water supply,” Schneider said. “We are proud to partner with Linton to strengthen the safety and reliability of their water system.”

Constructed in the late 1930’s, Linton’s water system is in need of updates due to deteriorating water mains and costly maintenance issues. By replacing existing cast iron piping with PVC, the city will reduce water losses and eliminate potential health concerns. The total project cost, which serves 656 users, is financed through USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program.

In Fiscal year 2012, USDA Rural Development financed over $21.6 million in North Dakota water and sewer projects. For more information on rural programs, please visit the USDA Rural Development’s web site at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/nd.
