(JANUARY 18, 2013) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT APPROVES $13.8 MILLION LOAN FOR BOULDER CITY HOSPITAL

Carson City, NV, Jan 18, 2013 -- USDA Rural Development Approves $13.8 Million Loan for Boulder City Hospital

(CARSON CITY-Jan. 18, 2013) USDA Rural Development has approved a direct loan of $13.8 million to the Boulder City Hospital to complete a major renovation and expansion. The non-profit critical access hospital will be expanded by 19,000 square feet to provide a state of the art surgical center, expanded emergency department, and enhanced services for physical and occupational therapy. The expansion will also result in 20 additional beds.

The pharmacy, home health, lab and dietary areas will be remodeled. The admissions lobby, surgical, physical therapy, and long-term care areas will be renovated and expanded. The Emergency Department will be expanded by over 5,100 square feet. The project will also allow the hospital to provide a 10-bed geropsych care unit (elder care mental health) and 10 additional long-term care rehabilitation beds.

“We are very pleased to provide this initial funding for the hospital to enable Boulder City Hospital to provide a broader range of care and updated facilities for the community and region,” said USDA RD Director Sarah Adler.

Construction is scheduled to begin this spring, with completion in 2014. The hospital will remain open during the renovation.

Currently, the hospital is about 35,000 square feet. The renovation will remodel 17,000 square feet of the current building, and add 19,000 square feet.

The Boulder City Hospital originally opened in 1954 as a community hospital. As the only critical access hospital in the area, it serves as the primary emergency service care provider for both Boulder City and neighboring communities.

The direct loan is for 40 years at 3.125%. The total project cost is estimated at $16.3 million.
