Outline of Need:
Regional Food Systems have been proven to add economic value to a given area. Many potential business owners have great business models and ideas. However, just as many potential small business owners need financial assistance to get their projects up and running. In rural Cabool, MO, the city’s economy revolved solely around the few major employers in the area. Many of Cabool’s citizens had to travel to surrounding towns for employment opportunities.
How Rural Development Helped:
Rural Development assisted Cabool Kountry Meats, a local butchery, with a $225,000 Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan made in partnership with The Seymour Bank. The loan funds, combined with the business’ equity investment, were used to start the new business which will provide employment opportunities as well as fresh local meat products to the community.
The opening of Cabool Kountry Meats resulted in the creation of five new jobs, which created a positive economic impact on the area. Cabool Kountry Meats primarily processes pork and beef and serves several surrounding counties. The project also supports the Local Foods Initiative by providing a market for local farmers and ranchers to process their meat products for sale to the public.

It also helps create economic stability for rural areas by creating jobs and increasing economic activity.”
