(FEBRUARY 19, 2013) NEBRASKA INDIAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE PRESIDENT PARTICIPATES IN THE USDA AND AMERICAN INDIAN HIGHER EDUCATION CONSORTIUM LEADERSHIP GROUP WINTER MEETING

Lincoln, Nebraska, Feb 19, 2013 -- Nebraska Indian Community College President Micheal Oltrogge of Macy, Nebraska had the opportunity to share his college’s needs at the USDA and American Indian Higher Education Consortium Leadership Group Winter Meeting on February 8, 2013 in Washington, DC. Oltrogge addressed his remarks to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Senior Advisor to the Secretary on Tribal Relations and Office of Tribal Relations Acting Director Max Finberg.

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack spoke to the presidents of the tribal colleges from across the nation at the Agriculture Department expressing his commitment to support Tribes and further strengthening the government-to-government relationship.

The Secretary noted that President Obama continues to work closely with Tribes to establish a “deeper, more meaningful” consultation process.

Natural Resources and Environment Deputy Under Secretary Butch Blazer, said that under the Obama Administration “Indian education is being elevated. Higher education is creating the young tribal professionals that we need.”
