@@Energy Efficient Water Heater Provides Cost Savings for Fallon Motel Owner
With a new hot water heater at his motel, Kishor Morar is saving over $700 annually on his energy bill. Now he just wishes he had more visitors.
The owner of the Budget Inn in Fallon has been there five years, coming from Lake Tahoe, where he also ran a motel. In Fallon, the 47-room motel is in a prominent location and is competitively priced, and when there is traffic, the business does well and rents lots of rooms.
Morar paid for his new energy efficient water heater using a rural Energy for America Program grant he applied for after he heard about it from his accountant. The program provides support for small businesses to install energy efficient Heating and Air Conditioning Systems. Korar’s grant of $1,635 may be one of the smallest on the books. The energy efficiency grant can pay for up to ¼ of the total project cost.
“It’s pretty good, it’s better than nothing in this economy.” He also said he may consider replacing another water heater in the near future.
Energy efficiency improvement grants are available for small rural businesses in Nevada. To learn more about the USDA’s program, visit USDA Rural Development website at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/nvreapprogram.html or contact Energy Coordinator Mark Williams at (775) 887-1222 Ext. 116.
USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages housing, business and community infrastructure programs through a national network of state and local offices.
