Lincoln, Nebraska, May 28, 2013 --

@@“It is with great pride that I announce Luann Brown as our recipient of the USDA Rural Development Heartland Award,” said State Director Maxine Moul, USDA Rural Development. Brown is the Community Programs Technician in the Lincoln USDA Rural Developent office.

“We have named this the Heartland Award because the employees who will be recognized are at the Heart of our Team at USDA Rural Development,” said Moul.

The Heartland Award is given monthly through nominations submitted by employees for actions that go above and beyond the call of an employee’s duty. The state Rural Development management team reviews the nominations and selects the winner. A traveling trophy is given to the winner selected each month.

“Brown earned the award for her excellence in transferring the Community Programs portfolio from the Norfolk office to the Lincoln office nearly doubling the caseload,” said Moul.

Brown celebrates 10 years of federal government service this month, starting with the Nebraska Military Department, and then moving to the Bureau of Reclamation in Colorado. She has been a technician at Rural Development since April 2009. She joined the Nebraska Army National Guard in 2000, has had deployments to Kuwait and Iraq, and has been a Blackhawk helicopter mechanic and technical inspector. She is scheduled to graduate from Officer Candidate School in September and has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Colorado Technical College.
