USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT HONORS PRO/RENTAL PRESIDENT/GENERAL MANAGER
Apr 29, 2013 --

Ms. Deb Baker, President/General Manager of PRO/Rental was recognized with a certificate of appreciation from USDA Rural Development for her management of multi-family properties throughout the state of South Dakota. Baker has been the owner and manager of PRO/Rental since its formation on September 1, 1983.

“We are proud to recognize Deb for her hard work and dedication of service,” said South Dakota USDA Rural Development State Director Elsie M. Meeks. “Rural Development helps to ensure communities have affordable rental and housing options. Deb, with the help of her dedicated staff, played an important role in the lives of the tenants while she personally overseen repairs, handled financial matters, dealt with concerns of the residents, and developed long term planning for the properties.”

Baker received recognition during a farewell party held in her honor in Sturgis. The award was presented by Rural Development Area Director Tim Potts who has worked with her for 25 years.

During Baker’s career, she provided oversight for the entire operation of approximately 45 properties consisting of approximately 900 government subsidized units throughout the state; Rural Development’s 515, HUD/Section 8, LIHTC, HOME, and Conventional Properties. Baker commented, “Owning my own business has sometimes been a challenge, but absolutely the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I hope I actually made a difference in people’s lives.”

For 30 years Baker provided steady and secure employment for a number of people, housing to thousands of residents and helped owner’s maintain the integrity of their investments. Baker has seen a great number of changes in the multi-family housing program over the years. “For the most part, the Rural Development staff has always been awesome to work with, very helpful, and have tried their best to be accommodating. I will miss them,” added Baker.
