Minot, N.D., Aug 08, 2013 -- Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development state director, announced today that Artspace Properties, Inc. received a $97,522 grant to provide technical assistance to Native American artisan businesses and entrepreneurs.
“The grant will be used to provide Native American artists access to the tools and support needed to build successful businesses,” said Schneider. “The project creates a center of information that will connect the Native American arts community with regional and national marketplaces.”
Artspace will provide an 1,100 square-foot area in their Minot Artspace Lofts building to the Turtle Mountain Tribal Arts Association for training, workshops and gallery space. Training programs will be offered in business management, website development, marketing and public relations. Funding will also be used to purchase equipment needed to provide technical assistance training and to offer opportunities for artist mentoring.
The grant announced today is administered through USDA’s Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) program. Since 2009, this program has provided over $1.3 million in grants for North Dakota projects that finance business development.
