    @@USDA Rural Development Area Specialist Daniel Johnson was elected president of the National Association of Credit Specialists (NACS) during the organization's annual meeting held in San Diego, Calif. in June.

    NACS is the federal employee association for USDA Rural Development specialists that serves as a conduit between employees and USDA officials in Washington, D.C. With over 850 members nationwide, NACS works to expand, improve and expedite the services of USDA to rural Americans.

    "Our goal at NACS is to continually make improvements to the way we do our jobs so that we can improve our service to the public," said Johnson. "I am honored to lead this association and the many hardworking and dedicated employees at USDA over the next year."

    As president, Johnson will lead a delegation of NACS representatives to Washington, D.C. later this month to meet with USDA officials. The group will offer several recommendations for improvements to programs and processes as determined by the NACS membership.

    Johnson has worked for USDA Rural Development and its predecessor agencies for 29 years. He currently provides business and economic development support from the USDA Service Center in Bakersfield, Calif. He has been a member of NACS since 1996, and in addition to several positions held at the state level, Johnson most recently served as NACS Vice-President in 2012.

    USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, has an active portfolio of nearly $189 billion in loans and loan guarantees. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America.
