(SEPT. 30, 2013) USDA HELPS BUILD NEW HOSPITAL IN BOWMAN
Bowman, ND, Sep 30, 2013 --

@@Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development state director, announced today that Southwest Healthcare Services received $15 million in financing to construct a new hospital and clinic in Bowman.

“Southwest Healthcare has seen a growing demand for their medical services in Bowman due to the oil boom and aging population,” said Schneider. “This project will help better serve the increasing number of patients and allow for possible future expansion.”

The 59,000 square foot facility will replace the existing hospital and clinic which has limited space and structural deficiencies. Southwest Healthcare currently functions from two different campuses. To be more efficient and cost effective, the new building will provide adequate space for all patient services, equipment and staff under one roof.

When completed, the healthcare facility will include: acute care with 10 inpatient beds, a 24-hour emergency department, 15 swing beds, outpatient service areas, lab and diagnostic departments and a primary care clinic. It will be attached to the existing long-term care center, which will provide ample parking and potential for future development.

Through the Community Facilities program, USDA Rural Development will finance 55 percent of the project with a low-interest loan. Additional financing will come from the North Dakota Medical Infrastructure Loan program and from Southwest Health. The project is expected to be finished in the fall of 2015.

Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested $76.2 million in health care projects across North Dakota. To learn more about the community facilities program, please visit http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/nd.
