(DEC. 12, 2013) USDA ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Bismarck, ND, Dec 12, 2013 -- Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development state director, announced that applications are being accepted for grants to finance and facilitate the development of new and existing businesses.

“Small businesses are the backbone of the economy in rural communities," Schneider said. “The grant funding is focused on making sure that Main Street businesses have the tools they need to grow and create jobs."

Funding is being made available through the Rural Business Enterprise Grant program. The program provides grants for technical assistance, establishment of revolving loan funds, equipment purchases and the acquisition of land, buildings, and infrastructure to enhance business development. Public bodies, non-profit entities and Native American tribes may apply for grants ranging from $10,000 to $500,000.

In 2013, four North Dakota entities received grants totaling more than $200,000. Grant applications are due on March 1, 2014. More information about how to apply is available at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/BCP_rbeg.html or by calling the USDA Rural Development office at 701-530-2037.
