|(JANUARY 30, 2014) USDA PROPOSES TO EXPAND RURAL HOUSING LENDING AREAS IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY|

@@A USDA official announced today the proposed expansion of Rural Housing Service lending areas in Montgomery County. Prospective and current homeowners in Amsterdam will soon be eligible to apply for USDA funding to purchase, build or repair a home.
“This is the start of an exciting partnership with the rural residents of Montgomery County,” said Lee Telega, USDA Rural Development New York State Director. “Now all of Montgomery County including the city of Amsterdam has incredible potential to create new jobs and expand economic opportunities through USDA’s housing programs.”
Effective March 1, 2014, Amsterdam, NY will become a designated eligible lending area with USDA’s Rural Housing Service. According to the released 2010 census data and the county’s designation as a Micropolitan Statistical Area, the City of Amsterdam now meets the Agency’s definition of rural. This means that all of Montgomery County is eligible to apply for funding through USDA’s housing programs.
USDA Rural Development’s Single Family Housing programs have been successful by providing decent, safe, and sanitary housing to more than 2600 rural New Yorkers annually. USDA can assist with; building a new house, purchasing or repairing an existing home, improving the energy efficiency or handicap accessibility of a home.
