BISMARCK, ND, Feb 27, 2014 -- USDA Rural Development released today a progress report highlighting the agency’s impact across North Dakota. Over the past year, more than $506 million has been invested in the state to grow communities and build infrastructure.

“Our office put an emphasis on meeting the demands of growth in the state both in population and private sector industry,” said Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development state director. “By partnering with individuals, businesses and communities, we have been able to build critical infrastructure and spur economic activity.”

The report provides detailed information on programs and spotlights significant investments made in healthcare, affordable housing and public utilities. With over 40 flexible programs, Rural Development projects are financed through direct loans, guaranteed loans and grants.

USDA Rural Development has 42 employees in six offices across North Dakota and manages a loan portfolio of over $4 billion. The progress report may be found under reports at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/nd.
