(MARCH 18, 2014) BUILDING PURCHASE WILL EXPAND EDUCATIONAL ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITY

Clinton, MO, Mar 18, 2014 -- USDA Rural Development State Director Janie Dunning today announced funding for the Truman Regional Community Development Corporation. Rural Development approved two (2) Community Facility Direct Loans of $1,350,000 and $400,000, a Community Facility Grant of $8,575, and an Economic Impact Initiative (EII) Grant of $13,550.

“Education is critical to our future. We must assure those who want to attend college have the most advanced and accessible facilities available. In addition, given the cost of higher education, we want to provide educational opportunities as close to home as possible to allow more to attend,” Dunning stated. “Truman Regional Community Development Corporation has decided to invest in the future by purchasing a building used for education and preparing for rehabilitation to expand classroom capacity. The organization knows offering a chance at education has a connection to maintaining a trained workforce and growing the local economy. Rural Development applauds the effort and the potential impact on the area.”

Rural Development funds will be used to purchase and renovate a portion of the building now used by State Fair Community College and Central Methodist College. The renovation will add additional classrooms to accommodate more college classes. Four hundred students now attend classes in the building.

USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, has an active portfolio of more than $197 billion in loans and loan guarantees. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America.

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
