The Our Lady of Lourdes’ library was outdated and was in great need of a makeover.
USDA Rural Development’s partnership and support allowed Red Cloud to update and upgrade this essential facility. The library serves as a fundamental component of Red Cloud's holistic approach to education--which creates meaningful educational experiences to enrich and empower Lakota students on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
A Community Facility Grant of $13,600 was utilized for this project.
The library now has newly painted walls, furniture, shelving systems, carpeting, and also an up-to-date computer to provide current and future Lakota students access to contemporary technologies and facilities that can provide state of the art educational experiences.
“USDA Rural Development’s partnership and long-term commitment to Red Cloud, ultimately, helps create and ensure opportunities for academic success for our current and future students,” said Fr. George Winzenburg, S.J., President of Red Cloud Indian School. “On behalf of the Lakota students we serve, I thank Rural Development for their support and
dedication in helping us create opportunities for the Lakota people.”
