(JUNE 24,2014) USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTS NEWMAN GROVE COMMUNITY CENTER WITH NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS

Newman Grove, Neb., Jun 24, 2014 -- USDA Rural Development announces a $7,400 award to the Newman Grove Community Center in Newman Grove, Nebraska. The funds will be leveraged with $13,870 from the Community Center to provide renovations to the Center.

"The Community Club is excited to be able to move forward with this next phase of restoration of our building. Removal of the old asbestos and upgrading the insulation and air conditioning and furnace will go a long way towards making the Community Center useful to our town and surrounding community" said President Earl Zeller, Newman Grove Community Club.

Improvements to be made to the Center include the removal of asbestos in the basement and also the removal of the antiquated furnace. The ceiling will be insulated on the main floor, which includes the Food Bank. Installation of a new furnace and air conditioner will also take place.

"Communities need a place to gather that is safe and comfortable," said Community Programs Specialist Janice Stopak, USDA Rural Development. "USDA Rural Development was pleased to assist the Newman Grove Community Center with its upgrades."

The project was funded through the USDA Rural Development Community Facility Grant program. For more information contact Janice Stopak at 402-437-5743.

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
