(JUNE 27, 2014) CITY OF NELSON AND USDA WORK TOGETHER FOR FINAL TOUCHES TO NEW NELSON LIBRARY

Lincoln, Neb., Jun 27, 2014 -- USDA Rural Development announces a grant of $17,000 to the City of Nelson. The City will provide $14,000 to leverage the award. The funds will be used to purchase furniture for the new library location and for concrete work on the sidewalk for accessibility.

"Nelson City Library is a center for all ages in our small town.  The Library is a great source for books, research and computers for the young and elders. With the help from USDA, we are able to make the building handicap accessible and acquire shelving to properly display our resources.  Our staff and community have worked hard to reach this goal. Thank you," said Mayor Arlan Drudik, City of Nelson.

"It is always pleasing to help communities utilize USDA dollars to benefit rural residents," said Community Programs Specialist Janice Stopak, USDA Rural Development. "This project will provide the Nelson Library with the furniture which they lack and provide for accessibility issues."

The project was funded through the USDA Rural Development Community Facility Grant program. For more information contact Janice Stopak at 402-437-5743.

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
