Steve Pelham was appointed State Director of USDA Rural Development in Alabama by President George W. Bush on June 4, 2001.
Prior to his appointment he served as state director for Congressman Terry Everett for eight years (1993-2001). In addition, he served as a legislative assistant on Congressman Everett's staff in Washington and was involved in managing Congressman Everett's successful campaign in 1992. Prior to joining Congressman Everett's staff, Steve was an Area Organization Director for the Alabama Farmers Federation.
Steve has been involved in state and national politics for over twelve years. During this period he served on Speaker Newt Gingrich's national advance team and served as Congressman Everett's political advisor and manager during four successful reelection campaigns (1994-2000).
Steve has worked to help build partnerships between the public and private sector in order to help create economic development opportunities and the expansion of infrastructure to improve the quality of life in Alabama.
Steve is a member of the Montgomery Rotary Club, and the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Wright Flyers. He graduated from Auburn University in 1979 with a degree in Public Administration. Steve is originally from Auburn and now lives in Montgomery.
