The economic growth of rural
communities depends on critical infrastructure. An important
mission of USDA Rural Development in California is improving the
quality of life through a variety of loan and grant programs for
electric energy, telecommunications and water and waste water
disposal projects.
Our Rural Utilities Program in 2006
delivered more than $15 million in funds to rural communities
for a variety of projects. We also invested nearly $47 million
in water and waste water projects funds to improve existing
facilities or to build new ones for growing rural towns.
The distance learning and
telemedicine program within the Utility Program helps to develop
the Information Superhighway in rural California. We provide
grants to rural schools, hospitals and medical clinics to
jump-start the development and deployment of advanced
telecommunications services in rural California. I
invite you to learn more about all of the benefits of the Rural
Utilities Program by reviewing the information listed on this
page.
