2003 Accomplishments


Fiscal Year 2003 saw Rural Development's financial investment exceed $187,000,000 in the State of Georgia. The information that follows will provide you with a brief description of the program type, the dollar outlay, and the estimated number of people helped.

Single Family Housing Programs

Our Single Family Housing Program continues to be a leader in the nation in providing assistance to very-low, low, and moderate income families who purchase their own home.  Our guaranteed program remains one the most successful due to our partnership with the private lending industry.  The repair loans and grants are used to rehabilitate homes owned by elderly or very-low income families, in many instances removing health and safety concerns.

Multi-Family Housing Programs

The Multi-Family Housing Program provides decent, safe, and affordable rental units at below market and market rents.  These properties are located in our rural communities and offer a comfortable place to live for those families who cannot or choose not to purchase their own home.

Community Programs

Community Programs provide funds for infrastructure, essential community facilities, and technology enhancements for medicine and learning.  Extensive infrastructure improvements to provide clean drinking water, wastewater and solid waste treatment facilities are also available.

Business Programs

Our Business Programs literally transform deserving communities into places of opportunity and growth, providing jobs and stimulating the economy.  Projects include cooperative development, tourism initiatives, downtown enhancements and infrastructure improvements.

This information reflects the wide variety of services that USDA Rural Development has available to rural families and communities. Georgia consistently ranks as one of the top States in loan and grant funds extended.
