Community Programs Loans and Grants  - 2000 Accomplishments

Description:

The following information shows the amount of funds obligated by program type for Fiscal Year 2000.


Water and Waste Loans and Grants                     $39,843,268

15 loans and 12 grants were made during the year to finance small municipal and rural water and wastewater systems in 14 communities 
across the state. Service was provided and/or improved for over 24,964 users.

Community Facilities Loans (Guaranteed)             $1,120,000

2 guaranteed loans were made (in combination with direct loans) to finance 1 health care facility and 1 personal care home/alzheimers facility.


Community Facilities Loans (Direct)                     $5,328,026

7 loans were made during the year to finance a wide range of essential community facility structures, including 1 day care center, 2 health care 
facilities, 2 assisted living facilities, and 2 fire station/fire trucks.


Community Facility Grants                                     $200,500

5 grants were made during the year to assist in financing 2 of the above listed projects and 3 additional projects. Grants are available to 
supplement the loan assistance for projects that lack economic feasibility.


Appalachian Regional Commission Grants (ARC) $1,095,588

5 grants were made during the year in designated Appalachian regions in the northern third of the state. These grants are intended to create jobs 
and promote private sector initiatives by funding water/sewer and community facility type projects. These 5 grants created approximately 
559 jobs.

Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI)     $331,500

2 grants were made during the year to qualified intermediary organizations that will provide technical assistance to recipients so that they may 
develop their capacity and ability to undertake projects to improve housing, community facilities, or community and economic development.

Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT)             $651,245

2 grants were made during the year to provide financial assistance to needy recipients to enhance learning and health care opportunities for 
rural residents through the use of telecommunications, computer networks, and related advanced technologies by students, teachers, 
medical professionals, and rural residents.
