Single Family Housing "In The News"

Automated Mapping System

As you know, Rural Development's housing programs were specifically designed to meet the needs of rural America. Presently, there are a number of counties that do not meet the guidelines for our mission, or are only partly eligible because of their population. These counties are categorized as either Ineligible Counties or Counties with Ineligible Areas.

Here's the Good News!

In the very near future, prospective homebuyers and lenders alike will be able to go on-line, enter an address, and our automated mapping system will inform you if the address is in an eligible area. This system will take the guess work our of the home buying process as it pertains to our rural and urban areas. Stay posted for this exciting addition as we increase our efforts to better serve Rural Georgia.

Pilot Program Additions

Our partnership with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) is growing in leaps and bounds! It all started with one family and four of our 23 Community Development Offices (CDO) in Clarkesville, Cochran, Douglas, and Hartwell. Then with such success, we included Bainbridge, Camilla, Waynesboro, and Newnan. Now we are in the process of adding four additional CDO's for a total of 12 offices throughout the state. These offices will serve residents in 80 Georgia counties. The mission for the partnership from its inception has always focused on providing affordable home financing. We are setting our sights on areas where there has been little to no private sector lending or agency participation. Let's look at the numbers. Just under $5,000,000 obligated with only eight or our twenty three CDO's active in the program. Now there will be twelve (12) and we are looking forward to more new homeowners than ever before. Our CDO in Statesboro will start this round of additions with Byron to follow. Completing the new additions will be Ocilla and Valdosta. The CDA/GRH affordable housing program presently (week ending 2-7-03) has interest
rates as low as 5.125% for targeted counties, and 5.375% for non-targeted areas (rates can change weekly.) Contact one of our participating CDO's for more details.
