  • Existing homes in good repair, structurally sound, and meet thermal requirements
  • Located in an Eligible Rural Area – Go to eligibility requirements

    FAQ
    How do I apply?

    Application is made at the office of a participating lender. A participating lender may be a bank, a mortgage company, or a mortgage broker. The lender will apply to USDA Rural Development for a guarantee on the loan.

    Who are the participating lenders to contact?
    You may contact the USDA Rural Development office serving the county in which the home you plan to buy is located to obtain names of lenders participating in the loan guarantee program.

    Is there a maximum loan limit?
    No. Maximum loan is determined by the repayment ability of the applicant(s).

    Can I have a basement? Air conditioning? Four bedrooms?
    Yes, yes, & yes. There are no restrictions on the size or design of the dwelling financed.

    Do I have to live in the home?
    Yes. The applicant(s) cannot own another home at the time of loan closing. The home to be purchased must be the primary residence of the applicant(s).
