Our Single Family Housing Program has two major categories: direct loans that are made by USDA directly to limited income persons to purchase a modest home using payment assistance to reduce the payments, and guaranteed loans which are made by lending institutions but are guaranteed by USDA Rural Development.

National Home Ownership Week was celebrated across the state in June, 2002. One of the special celebrations was held in Columbia City at the home of Judy McCoy in Valley River housing community. Columbia City Mayor, Ron Glassley issued a proclamation honoring National Home Ownership Week. Also attending the event were representatives from Pathfinders- Community Connections, one of Rural Development's active financing partners, Indiana Housing Finance Authority, Indiana Department of Commerce, Ideal Suburban Homes, Federal Home Loan Bank, Leader Mortgage, Star Financial Bank and Wells Fargo.

Through a variety of funding partnerships USDA Rural Development made over 120 loans in Whitley County the last ten years enabling many residents to become home owners.
