Whitewater, KS. – USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks and staff of Fourth District Congressman Todd Tiahrt participated in Earth Day ceremonies today with the funding of a new water treatment facility in the Butler County community of Whitewater. Rural Development is providing $1.12 million in funding to benefit approximately 700 users of the new system.
“Groundwater resources in Kansas will be conserved and protected for our children and future generations through the development of new facilities like this one that will be constructed in Whitewater. Rural Development appreciates the opportunity to serve rural Kansas in providing funding for these very important projects," said State Director Banks.
Pat Ryan, Mayor of Whitewater, thanked USDA Rural Development for their assistance in helping this project become a reality. “We could not have done this without Rural Development.”
Robert Noland, District Director of Congressman Tiahrt, complimented the City of Whitewater and USDA Rural Development on their partnership and hard work to bring the community in compliance with KDHE requirements.
Over the past ten years, USDA Rural Development has provided funding for rural water and wastewater projects that have benefited over 200,000 rural Kansans.
