Junction City, KS. – USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks announced today that Junction City’s historic Bartell Hotel has been selected for funding by the Agency for its renovation and the establishment of senior citizen housing. Congressman Jerry Moran also participated in today’s announcement.
The “Bartell House Senior Residences” project, when completed, will provide 32 senior citizen housing units located in downtown Junction City. This project will receive a $1.0 million loan, along with approximately $360,000 annual rental assistance, from USDA Rural Development. Additional financing for the housing project, totaling $2.8 million, consists of public and private sector investment and tax credits; partners include the City of Junction City, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, the State of Kansas, and Homestead Affordable Housing, Inc..
“Congratulations to Junction City and its partners for the vision and hard work necessary to secure this funding selection. I would also like to thank USDA Rural Development for their tireless efforts to assist Junction City this past year”, commented Congressman Moran.
“Upon completion, this long-awaited project will establish much needed housing for the community, along with providing significant economic stimulus for Junction City. Re-establishing quality housing opportunities within or adjacent to downtown areas is a key component to their economic revitalization. USDA Rural Development is pleased to announce this funding selection, which will assist in making this housing opportunity a reality for Junction City,” said State Director Banks.
