Parsons, KS. – USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks announced today that the City of Parsons was being recognized as the Agency’s “2003 Outstanding Community Partner.” USDA Rural Development made the presentation in conjunction with June National Homeownership Month celebrations being held across Kansas.
During the presentation, Parsons Mayor Tom Shaw thanked USDA Rural Development for its efforts in improving the community’s housing opportunities and presented State Director Banks with a “Key to the City”. Representatives from the offices of U.S. Senator Sam Brownback and 2nd District Congressman Jim Ryun were also present for the ceremony.
“With over twenty years of service to the City of Parsons, USDA Rural Development is pleased to have provided funding for nearly 100 homes, with a total loan value of over one million dollars. Owning a home continues to be the best form of building equity in America, and serves as the foundation of the Bush Administration’s commitment to rural America. Homeownership builds economic strength in both families and communities,” commented State Director Banks.
During Fiscal Year 2002, USDA Rural Development provided over $58 million in loans and grants to support housing programs in rural Kansas. Additionally, to assist more low- to very-low income families to obtain financing for safe and adequate housing, President Bush has proposed a 32% increase in USDA Rural Development’s single-family housing direct loan program in his 2004 budget.
