Sabetha Hospital Dedicated

Sabetha, KS –  USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks participated in ribbon-cutting ceremonies held today for the dedication of the new Sabetha Community Hospital.  USDA Rural Development provided $5 million in financing for the community’s new health care facility.

State Director Chuck Banks, in his dedication comments, remarked, “The delivery of health care services to rural Kansans is one of the basic foundations to maintain and improve the quality of life for Kansans, in addition to enhancing economic development.  USDA Rural Development appreciates the opportunity to administer these important programs that help strengthen rural Kansas communities and the entire State.  The support of the Kansas congressional delegation of this type of Agency programming is also greatly appreciated.”

Sabetha Community Hospital CEO Rita Buurman praised USDA Rural Development for their assistance with this project.  “Working with USDA Rural Development was wonderful, we hope to partner with them again,” stated Buurman.

Over the past eight years, USDA Rural Development has provided funding for twenty rural Kansas hospitals and care facilities, benefiting the quality of life for nearly 200,000 Kansans.  This Agency program has also impacted over 100 rural jobs, significantly enhancing economic activity in those rural communities.

Funding from USDA Rural Development for the Sabetha Community Hospital project was provided through the Agency’s Community Facility Program.  For additional information regarding this program, along with other USDA Rural Development programs, you may log onto the state Agency’s website at www.rurdev.usda.gov/ks  or call 785-271-2731.
