Ground Broken On USDA Rural Development Project In Junction City
Junction City, KS. – USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks joined future homeowners and Junction City community leaders in breaking ground for six new houses to be built in this Geary County community. Junction City Self-Help Housing Program is administering this project through USDA Rural Development’s Mutual Self-Help Housing Program.
During groundbreaking ceremonies, State Director Banks commented, “USDA Rural Development has a long history of providing assistance to improve housing opportunities in Kansas, efforts which strengthen our communities. President Bush has stressed the critical need of expanding homeownership in our Nation, and the important link it represents to personal economic prosperity. We congratulate Junction City on administering an excellent self-help housing program”.
USDA Rural Development’s Mutual Self-Help Housing Program is providing grant funds to the Junction City self-help housing program for the construction of 18 single-family homes. As a condition of the program, the future homeowners are required to personally supply 65% of the labor to construct their house. This ground breaking event is for the second group of six families starting construction of their homes.
USDA Rural Development’s mission is to deliver programs that support increasing economic opportunities and enhancing the quality of life of rural Americans. As a venture capital entity, USDA Rural Development provides equity and technical assistance to finance and foster growth in homeownership, business development, and critical community and technology infrastructure in rural America.
