USDA Rural Development Provides $7.5 Million
To Improve Electric Services in Kansas
Topeka, KS. – USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks today congratulated the two recipients of $7.5 million in recently announced funding for improvements to rural electric cooperative systems. These funds are provided from the USDA Rural Development electric and telephone programs.
“Investment in rural electric facilities creates job opportunities and provides critical services that improve the quality of life for Kansas residents, along with helping spur the economic recovery for our rural communities. The Bush Administration is working hard to boost America’s rural economy,” commented State Director Banks.
The Kansas projects, announced by Agriculture Under Secretary Thomas C. Dorr in Washington, D.C. on August 14th, follow:
Prairie Land Electric Cooperative, Norton, KS
– $5,702,000
Electric loan to serve 556 new consumers, construct 54 miles of
transmission line, and make other system improvements.
Twin Valley Electric Cooperative, Altamont, KS – $1,800,000
Electric loan to serve 200 new consumers, construct 11 miles of new transmission line, and make other need system improvements.
