USDA Rural Development Officials Tour Tornado Damage

Topeka, KS. – USDA Rural Development staff joined Congressman Jim Ryun on his tour of southeast Kansas yesterday to review the recent storm damage that has occurred in the region.  The tour and inspection of the damage provided the Agency the opportunity to determine needed assistance to local residents and their communities.

USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks reminds rural Kansans that the Agency’s housing programs offer eligible applicants assistance in repairing, buying, or building dwellings for use as their permanent residence.  Eligibility for the programs is based on credit history, income, capacity to repay the loan, and inability to obtain financing from other institutions.

Rural Development’s business and community facilities programs offer a source of funding for community facilities and commercial businesses.  Community facilities guaranteed and direct loans may be made to public bodies and nonprofit entities for projects that provide public service, public safety and health care.  Business loans may be guaranteed for eligible nonprofit and profit entities.

Rural Development is the economic development agency for USDA, and the lead federal entity for rural development.  For additional information, you may log onto the state's Rural Development website at: www.rurdev.usda.gov/ks, e-mail the Agency at 2002farmbillRD@ks.usda.gov  or call the Agency at 785-271-2700.
