City of Galesburg Water
System Receives
USDA Rural Development Funding
Topeka, KS – USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks has announced the City of Galesburg has received a $85,200 grant and $72,000 loan through the Agency’s Water and Waste Water Program to construct a new water distribution system. The city’s water system serves the community’s 150 residents.
“USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Program helps communities keep pace with the needs of their citizens to ensure Kansas residents have access to a clean, safe and reliable water source. This important program promotes the economic growth of the whole area, supports new jobs for the region and enhances the quality of life for the residents,” commented State Director Banks.
To serve the needs of this rural community, the project will include the replacement of approximately 13,800 linear feet of water line, install 86 water meters, install eight fire hydrants, and rehabilitate a standpipe. The City of Galesburg will contribute $18,000 for this project, and the community has also applied for a grant with the Kansas Department of Commerce
State Director Banks also thanked the Kansas Congressional Delegation, especially Senators Brownback and Roberts along with Congressman Ryun, for their support of this and the many other USDA Rural Development programs.
