USDA Rural Utilities Service Announces Distance Learning
and Telemedicine Grant Opportunity

Topeka, KS,— USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks announced the Agency is accepting applications for its Fiscal Year 2005 Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Program

Grant funding provided through the DLT Program is specifically designed to provide access to education, training and health care resources for people in rural America. The grants, which are awarded through competitive process, may be used to fund telecommunications, computer networks and related advanced technologies.

“Kansas communities can benefit from the opportunities provided by the distance learning and telemedicine program by building partnerships and demonstrate how the funding enhances rural health care or educational needs, to ensure that rural Kansans have the access to modern technology and telemedicine services," said Banks.

FY 2005 DLT Program applications must be submitted no later than February 1, 2005. This year’s program allows for grant funding ranging from a minimum of $50,000 to a maximum of $500,000.

Guidelines and application forms for the DLT program are available at the Agency’s web site: http://www.usda.gov/rus/telecom/dlt/dlt.htm. Completed applications should be mailed to USDA, Rural Utilities Service, 1400 Independence Ave., SW., Room 2845, STOP 1550, Washington, D.C., 20250-1550.

Eligible applicants include: an incorporated organization or partnership, an Indian tribe or tribal organization, a state or local unit of government, a consortium, or other legal entity, including a private corporation organized on a for-profit or not-for profit basis.
