Farm Labor Housing Loans And Grants
Available From USDA Rural Development

– USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks announced today the opportunity to submit competitive applications for funding under the Agency’s Farm Labor Housing Loan and Grant Program. The Agency’s Farm Labor Housing Loan and Grant Program provides a qualified individual farm owner, family farm partnership, family farm corporation, an association of farmers, state and local public agencies, broad-based public or private profit and non-profit organizations, funds to build, buy, improve, or purchase apartment-style rental housing in rural areas for domestic farm laborers.

State Director Banks commented, “The people who labor in the fields across Kansas make it possible for the Sunflower State to provide an abundant source of food for our country and, indeed, for people all around the world. They have dedicated their lives and made many sacrifices, and we are grateful for the contributions they have made to our Nation and to our economy”.

Requests for the Agency’s Farm Labor Housing Loan and Grant Program pre-application package should be sent to USDA Rural Development, 1303 SW First American Place, Suite 100 , Topeka , Kansas 66604 -4040, attention Multi-Family Housing Specialist. The completed pre-application must be received in the USDA Rural Development office by 5:00 p.m. on May 13, 2005 . This period will be the only time during Fiscal Year 2005 the Agency will be accepting pre-applications for this rural housing program

During Fiscal Year 2004, USDA Rural Development in Kansas administered an all-time record $152 million in financial assistance in Kansas. In addition to an overall increase in program funding of nearly 50% over the past four years, this level of Agency programming represents the fourth consecutive year of + $100 million in funding for Kansas. USDA Rural Development programs cover a wide scope of development assistance, including funding for business and homeownership loans, community facilities, rural water service and value-added agriculture products.
