USDA Rural Development Joins Mid-Kansas Community
Action Program To Celebrate New Location
Augusta , KS – USDA Rural Development State Director Chuck Banks joined Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. Executive Director Dale Tower this afternoon in celebration of the open house and ribbon cutting ceremonies for Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc.’s new administration and Headstart facility located in Augusta. The facility, funded in part by USDA Rural Development Community Facility Program loan of $355,500, will support Mid-Kansas Community Action Program’s efforts in south-central Kansas.
“USDA Rural Development appreciates the opportunity to support Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. which serves counties of South-central Kansas. The Agency’s Community Facility Program assists eligible nonprofit organizations to deliver their important community assets for rural Kansans. USDA Rural Development would like to compliment Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. for their fine work over the past years,” commented State Director Banks at the ceremonies.
“Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. thanks USDA Rural Development for the Community Facility Program loan that helped purchase the old St. James School and renovated it into accommodations for our administration and Headstart Program,” remarked Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc. Executive Director Dale Tower.
Locally-based and governed, the Mid-Kansas Community Action Program (Mid-CAP) builds public and private partnerships to address poverty and find creative solutions. Mid-CAP works with individuals and families to assess their unique needs and provide the support necessary to move them out of poverty toward self-sufficiency. Mid-CAP Headstart serves income-eligible families with children 0 to 5 years of age. Children receive medical and dental screening, nutritious meals and snacks, developmentally appropriate and individualized curriculum, with parenting classes available. Mid-CAP serves the counties of Butler, Chase, Cowley, Greenwood, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Marion, Reno, and Sumner.
The State of Kansas, through a grant from the Head Start Bureau, also provided financial assistance for the facility. Augusta Mayor Ross Roundtree, Jim Ramirez, Assistant Executive Director for Mid-Kansas Community Action Program, Inc., and Father Sam of St. James Church were also present for the dedication ceremonies.
USDA Rural Development’s Community Facility Program can provide financial assistance to eligible organizations for the construction or improvement of schools, libraries, childcare, hospitals, medical clinics, assisted living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, community centers, public buildings and transportation facilities.
