Ralph and Ella Mae's home was damaged during the June 11,2008 tornado that struck Chapman. Agency funding was leveraged with insurance and other funds to replace the roof, repair the exterior, and upgrade the heating/air conditioning system in the house to make it safe and energy efficient. The Settgast were recognized as a "Special Homeownership Partner".

Acting State Director Darla Buckman presented Tom Bishop with Homestead Affordable Housing a Certificate of Recognition as a "Special Non-Profit Affordable Housing Partner" during a stop in Holton. Tom works with the Agency's Section 502 Loan Program, Section 504 Loan and Grant Program, Site Loan Program, and Section 515 Multi-family Housing Program.

The Agency was able to help Jennifer Neal and her son with a Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan utilizing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 funding as a first time home owner. The Agency's Guaranteed Loan Program works in partnership with Guaranteed Lenders to bring the best of rural America to income eligible households. Jennifer was also recognized by the Agency as a "Special Homeownership Partner"

USDA Rural Development Housing Programs Director Tim Rogers presented Ideal Real Estate of Ellsworth with a Certificate of Recognition as a "Special Homeownership Partner" in support of USDA Rural Development's housing programs.

USDA Rural Development Housing Programs Director Tim Rogers presented Greensburg's Recovery Coordinator/Assistant City Administrator Kim Alderfer and Greensburg City Administrator Steve Hewitt, with a Certificate of Recognition as a "Special Homeownership Partner" in support of USDA Rural Development's Greensburg Community Self-Help Housing Program. The Greensburg Community Self-Help Housing Program modeled after USDA's successful Mutual Self-Help Housing Program, includes other non-profits and faith-based organizations, national energy experts, government agencies, and trade associations to help reduce the cost of the houses being built to replace those homes lost from the devastating May 4, 2007 tornado that struck Greensburg and the region. Contributors to the Greensburg Community Self-Help Housing Program include the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, South Central Community Foundation, National Association of Home Builders, South Central Kansas Tornado Recovery Organization, FHLBank Topeka, Greensburg State Bank / Hudson Oil Foundation, the Salvation Army, Community Housing Services, the Kiowa County Commission and Greensburg GreenTown/DoE/NREL/IBACOS.
