SABETHA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL EXPANSION FUNDED WITH $5 MILLION IN USDA FUNDS
Topeka, Kansas, April 15, 2002
– The Sabetha Community Hospital is being expanded through a USDA Rural Development Community Facility Loan of $5,000,000 according to Chuck Banks, Kansas USDA Rural Development State Director. The applicant is contributing an additional $1,234,800 towards the project. USDA Rural Development is the federal agency responsible for the economic development of the rural areas of Kansas."The hospital is owned by the City of Sabetha and leased to Sabetha Community Hospital, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation," related Tim Rogers, Rural Development Specialist in the Lawrence office, "The project consists of the construction of a 25,000 square foot addition to house fifteen patient beds, an emergency room, labor and delivery room, diagnostic and other patient care services. The present facility will be used for administrative offices, specialty outpatient services, storage of medical records, dietary and rehabilitation services and other uses. The expanded hospital will service the City of Sabetha and the area community."
Community Facility loan and grant funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for day care, health care, public safety, and public services. These loans and grants are made to public entities and nonprofit organizations.
