Rural America encompasses 80 percent of the nation's land area and is home to about 20 percent of its people. Partnering with others to create new opportunities for these 40 million or so rural Americans is the goal of USDA Rural Development. A good job to go to in the morning; a well-built, safe home with reliable water, electric and telecommunications services to return to in the evening; life in a rural community with good schools, quality health services, dependable police and fire protection and an up-to-date library - this is what USDA Rural Development is all about.
