DISTANCE LEARNING AND TELEMEDICINE 
LOANS AND GRANTS

 

Purpose:  To encourage, improve, and make affordable the use of advanced telecommunications, computer networks, and related technologies for educational and medical purposes

Program Type:  Loans and grants

Eligible Applicants: Public bodies, special purpose districts, Indian tribes, and nonprofit corporations

Eligible Areas:  Cities and unincorporated areas of 10,000 or less

Authorized Purposes:  Funds are used to expand the use of telecommunications technologies to expand and enhance educational and medical services in rural areas

Rates and Terms:  The interest rate is based on market conditions; loan terms are 10 years or the economic life of the facilities to be financed, whichever is less 

When to Apply:  For grant requests, a deadline is established each fiscal year when allocations are announced; for loan and grant combinations, requests may be submitted year round
